As the nation’s principle agency for cancer research, The National Cancer Institute coordinates cancer research in this country. • NCI receives its funds from Congress. • NCI’s budget for FY 2013 was $4.8 billion, about a $293 million decrease from FY 2012. • Other federal government agencies, including other NIH centers, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Department of Defense, also fund cancer research.
