  16. TV Shows In Germany, TV Shows are run different than in the United States. In the United states, TV Shows last to about 20 episodes a season, where as in Germany a season would last 200-250 episodes. Also, each TV Show’s episodes run from Monday through Friday.

  17. Verliebt in Berlin One of the most popular TV shows in Germany. It was adapted from a Colombian Telenovela. Other adaptations include American show, Ugly Betty.

  20. Wetten, dass..? “Wetten, dass” translated in to English, “Wanna bet that..?” Arguably one of the most popular shows on German TV.

  34. Basketball • Basketball may not be a very popular sport in Germany • But basketball superstar Dirk Nowitzki is one of the most popular athletes in Germany

  36. Education • Most schools don’t have uniforms • Students are required to study a foreign language for at least five years • Corporal punishment is not allowed, since 1973 • Vacation lengths vary from state to state

After elementary school (Grundschule), students are divided into three different school according to their academic performance; Hauptschule, Realschule, and Gymnasium • Hauptschule, the “lowest” and Gymnasium, the “highest” • Hauptschule ends at grade 9, Realschule ends at grade 10, and Gymnasium ends at grade 12 or 13 in some states • Only graduates from Gymnasium can further the studies in universities (Hochschule)
