Behavior/Learning Characteristics • Flicking their hands repeatedly • Tend to manipulate objects in a repetitive fashion • Significant academic challenges • Perseverate on a specific item/topic • Encounter cognitive shifting difficulties
Prevalence • The prevalence is about 5 cases per 10,000 (APA 2000) • Gender differences are evident in autism • Males outnumber females substantially • Vary from around 4 to 1 to as higher as 8 to 1
