  2. Feminism • “The belief that men and women should be equal politically, economically and socially.”

  3. Women should be allowed to vote. (19th Amendment, 1920) • Women should be allowed to serve in the armed forces in gender-integrated units. (1948) • A woman should be paid the same as a man for doing the same job. (1963) • Women should not be discriminated against in their employment. If they can do the job, they should be treated the same as men. (1964)

  4. Women should be allowed to choose to use contraceptives. (1965) • Employers should not be allowed to advertise jobs as open to “men only.” (1968) • Women should have the same educational opportunities as men. (1972 – Title IX) • Women should be able to obtain loans and credit on the same terms as men. (1974)

  5. Women should be allowed to attend military academies. (1975) • Women should not be excluded from juries (1975) • Women should be allowed to use deadly force to defend themselves against rape. (1975) • A husband is not entitled to force his wife to have sex if she does not consent. (1976)

  6. Women should be allowed to serve as police and firefighters if they are physically able to meet the reasonable requirements of the job. • Women should not be subject to sexual contact, innuendo or pressure at work. (1980, EEOC rules) • Equality of rights under the law should not be denied on account of sex. (1967?)
