  3. 44th Primary School in Łódź, Poland • Why were we invited to the European Network of Health Promoting Schools in 1992? • We had already been engaged in health promoting project since 1991 which was part of the initial pilot phase of the ENHPS implemented in four countries – Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia. • We were flexible and used to incorporate new ideas to our work • Our physical environment was quite good and promising at that time • The management of the school wasn't afraid of new challenges

  5. 44th Primary School in Łódź, Poland THE BEGINNINGS The Teachers' Board made a resolution to join the HPS Project

  6. The School Team for Health Promotion has been chosen with its School Coordinator 44th Primary School in Łódź, Poland THE BEGINNINGS A training for teachers and the administrative staff was organized

  7. 44th Primary School in Łódź, Poland THE BEGINNINGS The aims of the project were stated To establish a broad view of health among the whole school community To give pupils tools that enable them to make healthy choices To establish the understanding of the health promoting ideaamong pupils' parents To promote the health and well-being of pupils, their families and the school staff To empower pupils to take actions for healthier life To provide a healthier environment To promote the real value of health outside the school – in the local community To develop own tools for learning humanity and democracy To increase the quality of life To create "pupil's friendly" school community

  11. 44th Primary School in Łódź, Poland In 2002 the school chose its patron – Professor Jan Moll, a famous open-heart surgeon, the pioneer of Polish cardiac transplantology

  13. 44th Primary School in Łódź, Poland Three years later we were ready to start evaluation in order to apply for the Certificate of Polish Network of Health Promoting Schools Five national principles for health-promoting schools or standards, as they are called in Poland were introduced for evaluating the process of health promotion. Standards 1 and 2 concern conditions; and standards 3, 4 and 5 concern the main directions.
