Monday • Vocab quiz • Staple in order and hand in last week’s activities. • Activity 1: Chart ~ list the meanings of these words • Begin “The Scarlet Ibis” • Activity 2: Vocabulary from story ~ word/part of speech/definition. Write a sentence for each at home tonight.
Tuesday • Read The Scarlet Ibis • Activity 3: Chart • Five things that make him a good brother • Five things that make him a bad brother
Wednesday • Activity 4: Write one paragraph on each of the following • The narrator is a “good” brother because… • The narrator is a “bad” brother because… • Activity 5: Chart • Compare Doodle to the Scarlet Ibis using concrete evidence from the story • What does it actually say in the story about these two characters? • How are they similar? (in appearance, actions, life, death, etc.) • HW: Type up one of your „good“/“bad“ brother paragraphs in MLA format
Thursday • Activity 6: write a paragraph answering the question, • What do you think the lesson of “The Scarlet Ibis” is? Why? • Activity 7: Top ten things that help our writing • Maintain tense • avoid sentence fragments/runons • use advanced vocab • focus on verbs • use sentence variety - avoiding starting all sentences the same way • make sure sentences make sense • improve “flow” – use good transitions • spelling, grammar, punctuation • MLA formatting • elegance in writing • Discuss good/bad brother paragraphs in partners • Note ideas and changes
