Restructuring of DC and Detector Work • for many reasons the DC work was not very efficient in the past • site team does 70% of the time DC work • only high priority task could be addressed by site team • proposal of new structure: • re-organize work done at the site → detector team • perform the DC work in the search groups and in the detector group • ensure the connection between the search groups and the detector group by having a detector group member in each search group • increase manpower in detector group GEO DC workshop June 2004
DC work in search groups • find artifacts in data that cause problems in the analysis • info transferred to detector group, they discuss the problem and • improve the detector to avoid artifacts or • suggest veto back to search group • follow up analysis on triggers • request information from detector group on instrumental and PEM channels for trigger time • monthly review of the sensitivity and state goals for improvements (frequency domain and time domain) • input to prioritization of detector optimization work GEO DC workshop June 2004
S4 – Dates and Goals • S4 will start Jan 7th and will last for 4 weeks • LIGO goals: • Sensitivity goals, inspiral range: • H1: 7.5 Mpc • L1: 4 Mpc • H2: 2 Mpc • Duty cycle: • 70% individual ifos, 40% triple • GEO goal: • be factor of 3 for significant frequency range within worth LIGO detector, • duty cycle: 90% GEO DC workshop June 2004
S4 – preparation and shifts • hardware freeze: Dec 12th • control room preparation until Dec 22th • LabView control computer • operator monitors • operator manual • search group monitors • DC work environment for operator • SMS alarms • operator shifts • 6h – 14:30h, 14h – 22h, no overnight shifts GEO DC workshop June 2004
