    10. Presented by Dr.Chainarong Constraints Constraints Knowledge gap on importance of Quality Infrastructure for industry as not fully understood by producers or associations High compliance cost is obstacle for testing laboratories, i.e. when new equipment is bought to comply with new food safety regulations Regional competitors have considerable labour cost advantages and are catching up fast in the field of product quality In Thailand, the components required for a QI-system (standardization, metrology, testing, accreditation and certification) already exist to a large extent. Internationally, however, these components are only recognized in part Responsibilities for a QI-system are distributed over a numerous ministries and individual institutions

    11. Presented by Dr.Chainarong Opportunities Opportunities Thailand’s recent Standardization Act, which is being implemented, will facilitate an improved quality infrastructure Pressure of globalization i.e. new regulations places emphasis on a stronger and coherent quality infrastructure, especially in the area of food exports Thailand’s trade with EU countries is well established, based on supplies of a large range of produce, high quality and availability. Metrology Society of Thailand has a long history and is in a good position to promote awareness of the importance of quality infrastructure
