Mission Statement Our mission is to to enlighten, empower and enrich males through growth and development of realistic skill-sets, action plans and attitude changes towards education, self-sufficiency and ethnic identity.
Our Country Our Men • One in four black men aged 20-to-64 did not work for 12 straight months in 2006 • 1 in 20 black men are incarcerated • 75 percent are not attending college • Over 50 percent of black males in many cities around the country • as few as 43 percent of black males graduate from high school on time • $41,916 -- median annual income of a black man with a bachelor's degree
MMEG Goals OUR GOALS • Encourage all male minorities to finish school and mainstream into college • Build Self Esteem • Substance abuse awareness and prevention • Improve time and money management skills • Develop proper study skills • Promote community awareness and involvement • Making our men more responsible individuals • Seeking and maintaining employment • Networking strategies • Effective communication with women
Road Blocks to Success • We have dreams but just don’t know how to pursue them (Education) • Don’t know anyone that’s “been there done that” (Mentors) • Hanging around the wrong crowd “cant be a doctor hanging around plumbers” (Peer Pressure) • Becoming fathers before our time (Irresponsible) • Having a image that college isn't for us (Perception) • Settling for less (Self-Esteem)
What Can MMEG DO? • Show students that life is better by presenting model Students/Citizens that are or have been in the same situation. • Reaching out helping our community starting with the Middle/High School • Show how to get things done(Applying for jobs,making resumes, solving predicaments effectively)
We believe that we can reach out to all the males in and out of our community We can do it… we just need to know HOW TO!
