Update on the AFP Project D. Macina D. Macina, LTEX
AFP status • The project went through an ATLAS internal Review on September 17-18. The ATLAS recommendations have been to install all possible infrastructure during the LS1 to allow the installation of the movable beampipes and detectors in the Christmas shut-down 2015-2016. • During the LS1 we need to: • modify the vacuum layout between Q5 and Q6 on both sides of IP1 and prepare it for the movable beampipe installation in the Christmas shut-down 2015-2016. The appropriate ECR will be issued but in general we need to foresee dummy beampipes, possibly one sector valve and a couple of pumps • Install all cables for detectors, controls, beam and vacuum instrumentation • install the movable beam pipes supports • install all services related to cooling • foresee the installation of a TCL6 if necessary (see Stefano Redaelli’s talk) D. HBP impedance A new design has been submitted to the RF group to lower the HBP impedance below the 1% level of the whole LHC. We are waiting for the new calculation results 1200 mm 450 mm D. Macina, LTEX
Next steps (until the end of the year) • Define the vacuum layout (dummy beampipes, pumps, valves and supports) and issue the ECR to allow the production of the pieces in time for installation in LS1 • Continue to work on the optimization of the design to improve the impedance • Order BPMs • Define final cable list • Define the cooling and related services once results for power losses with the new design are available • Vacuum tests on the pocket prototype by the end of December 2012 D.
