Thursday, November 10th, 2011 • Bell Ringer: • On your own, use the 5 principles of relative age dating to finish the examples from the notes handout! • Asterisks (*) represent rock that has been heated up and changed due to magma intrusions. • Today’s Learning Goal: • We are going to learn 5 Principles of Relative Age Dating • Original Horizontality, Superposition, Cross-Cutting, Inclusions, Fossil Succession • Today’s Agenda: • Notes handout • Design your own cross-section
Design your own cross-section • Start by writing out the geologic history, then drawing what it would look like! • Requirements: • 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper • At least rock 5 layers (strata) • Show an example of 4 of the 5 principles of Relative Age Dating • Must include an intrusion • Must include a fault OR a fold w/ erosion
Exit Card: • No exit card today • Today’s Learning Goal: • We have learned 5 Principles of Relative Age Dating • Original Horizontality, Superposition, Cross-Cutting, Inclusions, Fossil Succession • Monday’s Learning Goals: • How do scientists assign numerical dates to rocks, and ultimately the earth?
