Before the Fair ---PREPARE 1. Update and PROOF your resume (Cover letters not needed.) 2. Research the employers 3. Develop your “top 10” list and second-tier list of employers. 4. Practice introducing yourself (30 seconds). 5. Plan what you’re going to wear.
Remember to Dress Appropriately You can never be overdressed. Pay attention to personal hygiene!
During the Fair --COMMUNICATE • Bring many copies of your resume. • Approach employers with a smile and a handshake. • Look and act professional. • Be aware of your body language and posture. • Keep a positive attitude. • Ask questions and show interest.
Make a good first impression! - DRESS UP! - Smile. - Make eye contact. - Firm handshake. - Introduce yourself. - Focus on what the recruiter is saying. - Thank the recruiter when finished, shake hands, and SMILE.
Avoid these mistakes… • Showing little enthusiasm • Giving rambling, unfocused responses • Having unclear career goals • Responding with “yes/no” answers • Failing to project self-confidence and poise • Not asking the interviewer any questions
