Lacrimal Glands • Produces tears
Conjunctiva • Mucous membrane that protects the eye
Sclera • Outermost layer of the eye • “white of the eye”
Cornea • A circular transparent part on the front of the sclera that allows light rays to enter the eye
Choroid coat • Middle layer of the eye
Pupil • Hole in front of the choroid coat that allows light rays to enter
Iris • Special muscular part of the choroid coat that regulates the amount of light that enters. • The colored portion of the eye.
Retina • Innermost layer of the eye • Made of nerve cells that transmit light impulses to the optic nerve
Lens • Circular structure located behind the pupil that bends light rays
Amblyopia • “lazy eye” • Poor vision in one eye caused by the dominance of the other eye
Astigmatism • Abnormal shape or curvature of the cornea that causes blurred vision
Cataract • A normally clear lens becomes cloudy or opaque

Ear • Organ that controls the special sense of hearing and balance.
Auditory Canal • Canal or tube in outer ear that produces a wax to protect the ear
Tympanic Membrane • Vibrates when sound waves hit it transmitting sound waves to the middle ear
Middle Ear • Contains small bones that transmit sound waves from the tympanic membrane to the inner ear
Cochlea • Receptor for sound waves
Meniere’s Disease • Collection of fluid in inner ear causing vertigo, N/V and ringing in ears
Otitisexterna • Inflammation of the external auditory canal
Otitis Media • Inflammation or infection of the middle ear
Tongue • Mass of muscle tissue that contains taste receptors
