  5. Latin America • After the Great Depression, Latin American countries work to become economically independent by creating new industries to produce goods that were former imported.

Asia • Independence movement in India • Gandhi fights for Indian independence • Communism spreads to China • Mao Zedong uses Marxist ideas to reorganize China • Japan becomes militaristic • Militant forces take over Japan, society put on wartime status; Imperial Rule Assistance Association forms, calling for Japanese expansion abroad
