FY 2008 Appropriations • Total for CN Programs: $13.9 billion. • Increase over FY 2007: $557.6 million. • School lunch: $8.18 billion. • School breakfast: $2.39 billion. • CACFP: $2.28 billion. • SFSP: $310.6 million. • SMP: $14.6 million.
SFSP Simplified Procedures • Sponsors reimbursed the maximum meals-times-rate calculation; no cost comparison for reimbursement • Expanded nationwide effective January 1, 2008 • Implementation Memo issued January 2, 2008 • HDQRTS/Regional/State Conference Calls • FNS Updating Materials On-line
Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program • New legislation has expanded the FFVP to 25 schools in all States not currently authorized. • $9.9 million / SY 08-09

Dietary Guidelines for Americans: Fact Sheets • FNS developing a series of one-page fact sheets to provide practical tips on updating menus and recipes and to serve as training materials. • Target date: March 2008
Status of HUSSC • The HUSSC was developed and rolled out in the summer of 2004—prior to the publication of the 2005 DGA • A work group, comprised of representatives from HQ and the RO, are currently revising the HUSSC

APEC: Next Steps • Expand training, technical assistance, and other efforts to reduce payment errors from operational problems: • Training on State monitoring of schools • Update/issue guidance on F/RP eligibility determinations • Use of annual verification data to ensure corrective action is taken • Web-based training to States and schools on certification/accountability issues

CRE Training • CRE Task Group updated CRE Forms and Instructions and is preparing training for SAs. • Four CRE training sessions planned: • Sacramento, CA in April, 2008 • Denver, CO in May, 2008 • New Orleans, LA in early June, 2008 • Annapolis, MD in mid- June 16 – 20, 2008 • Over 500 State reviewers and others will attend. • Training will lead to updating CRE Guidance.
Procurement Training • Will take place in two segments starting in spring 2008 • Web-based modules • “Interactive training” • Target audience is SA staff working with procurements for NSLP and SBP • Content: general procurement planning and administration, and requirements of the new procurement rule.
