  2. x • Once upon a time, there was an ugly duckling. His feathers were brown and grey - and his neck was too long for a duckling.

  3. x • The mother duck knew something was different about him even when he was an egg.

  4. x • His whole body didn’t look like the other ducklings.

  5. x • The ugly duckling’s brothers and sisters were mean to him.

  6. x • They teased him and picked on him because he was different.

  7. x • The ugly duckling had a broken heart.

  8. x • He ran away from the pond and found a house with an old woman in it. She brought him inside and said, “You can lay eggs for me!”

  9. After a few days, the ugly duckling still hadn’t laid any eggs. The old woman shooed him away.

  10. x • The ugly duckling flew to the lake and saw some strange white birds overhead!

  11. x • They were swans, the most graceful birds in the world.

  12. x • The ugly duckling saw his own reflection in the water and noticed his feathers had changed colour!

  13. x • He realised that he was no longer an ugly duckling, nor even a cygnet.

  14. x • He’d turned into a beautiful white swan.
