FINESSE – Creating Baltic Business • FINESSE is a network of ten partners from nine countries • Science Parks • Incubation Centres • Regional Development Agencies • Supports SMEs’ in expanding their business abroad within the Baltic Sea Region • No technology field limitations • EU-programme: Interreg IIIC • Budget: 2.053 Mill € • Duration: 30 months, Jan 2004 – Jun 2006 • Lead Partner: IZET Innovationszentrum Itzehoe from Germany

ACTIVITIES • FINESSE offers: • Market information • Training and individual coaching on businesses planning for international expansion • Business contacts from the target country • By arranging: • Nine 2 or 3 -day training courses, one in every country • Nine matchmaking events, one in every country • www.finesse-baltic.net includes • Company profiles for contact search • Market information → Tool to support SMEs internationalization on concrete level.

IRC NETWORK • Innovation Relay Centre established 1995 with the support from the European Commission • 33 countries, approximately 250 offices • EU, Romania, Bulgaria, Iceland, Norway, Switzerland • Turkey, Israel, Chile • Science parks, Chambers of Commerce, Regional Development Agencies etc. • The IRC definition of Technology Transfer • Transfer of know-how, technology, or expertise from one party to another party • Not just a commercial activity -> must have element of INNOVATION

  10. COOPERATION WITH THE ZHANGJIANG HI-TECH PARK • The Memorandum of Understanding between Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park and Teknia was signed in April 2001 • Additional extension agreement was signed in November 2003

  12. TEKNIA’S OFFICE IN SHANGHAI • Opened in November 2003 • Teknia is the first Finnish technology centre to open an international office

TEKNIA SHANGHAI OFFICE • Addresses the partnership needs of SMEs • Target group: companies in Pohjois-Savo (technology companies and traditional manufacturing sectors) • Generates examples of what can be achieved (success stories) • Develops a bank of knowledge, experience and good practice for use in awareness activities or services • Puts in place a key contact network to promote access to R&D, investor and business networks • Lowers the threshold for others on key issues e.g IPR, regulatory compliance
