  1. 4-H Livestock Lunch & LearnDec. 3, 2012 Mike Anderson, State 4-H Office Becky Nibe, State 4-H Office

  2. 4hOnline - FFA • New Retinal Imaging Machine Topics

  3. New “Friends” tab in 4hOnline

  4. What I know (not much) Neither the youth members or the clubs/chapters will be reflected on our ES237 numbers (which is good). Adding this module will be discretionary by state (not by county). However, even if it’s opened up at the state level, you still have the option to use or not. Looking at the screen print, and seeing only two status options (active & archived) tells me that there is no re-enrollment process—the records stay put until archived.

  5. What I know (not much) • Another option will be whether the records are available to counties to add/edit or only state. • This is customizable by “type of friend”, so could have some of these managed at the state level (POSSIBLY judges) and others at county level. • Given no “re-enrollment” and the choice of state manager or county manager, it did not sound as though these individuals would be logging in and maintaining their own records—it sounds as if it will be completely manager-based. (but it was never definitely stated that way though).

  6. What I know (not much) • Most states that have responded have asked for Quality Assurance, clubs/chapters, projects, and animals. • James says these features are already planned: • Define clubs/chapters • Identify leaders • Project selection • Integrate with Animals/Livestock • Integrate with their (not released) FairEntry program.

  7. What we’re worried about Time. You are county employees with limited time and lots of duties, which are supposed to be about ISUEO and 4-H. Managing FFA data is not SUPPOSED to be a part of that. Responsibility. If “we” take over managing FFA data, what signal does that send to the FFA advisors? Are you going to be asked to provide data to THEM about their own members?

  8. What we’re worried about • Dual enrollment – kids who are enrolled both in 4-H and FFA. • Will they need duplicate records, one of each type? • What about their animals—what does this do to our limits if they can identify both their FFA animals and their 4-H animals? • Are we going to need a whole new set of animal types to keep them straight?

  9. Talk to us We’re going to put up some polls to get some quantitative information. Also, now’s the time to type your questions, suggestions, and comments.

  10. Windows PC Tablet-based, not Apple-based • 2012 State Fair Test (show volunteer comments) • Used for sheep and beef shows • New machine worked great • Color and Clarity • Ability to go back and re-take an image at any time • Less overall equipment • Easy to use New Retinal Imaging Machine

  11. Things to ponder… • Current machine has one function: scan eyeballs • New machine is a tablet; multiple uses within the county • Current machine no longer manufactured; ALWAYS serviced though • Price – Current machine ($2,700) New machine ($3,850) • County Choice/Flexibility • Counties with existing machines • Keep it • Upgrade and sell old one? Weighing the Options
