Current Platform Hardware (WiMAX) • 3 BS by Sequans • 1 MS by Sequans • Common RF characteristics • Frequency range: 2.5 GHz to 2.7 GHz • Bandwidth: 5 MHz, 10 MHz • MIMO DL, SISO UL • TX power range: -26dBm to 23 dBm (200 mW) • All coding schemes • 3 MS by AWB: 2 PCMCIA, 1 USB
Small Cells platform status: 11/2009 General • MIMO tests – max throughput of ~14 Mbit/s • No authentication enabled yet Handover experiments • 2 BS + 1 MS (All Sequans) • Synchro source: a standard function generator • HO initiation: by variable RF attenuators • AWB MS operation not reliable in this config due to big frequency shifts (sync problems) Video streaming demo • To demonstrate the effects and the quality of a HO • VLC used at server & client • Great flexibility in stream format, codecs, and bitrates
Next steps ... In the near future: • Implement accurate time synchronization between the BSs (GPS synchro) • Flat access network • Enable authentication • Simple interference mitigation on startup • Nomadicity In the far future: LTE platform • Vendor not determined yet: no one has a femto BS product now • Current WiMAX platform functionality will NOT be reached earlier than end 2010
