Proclamation of 1763 • Settlement was prohibited beyond Appalachian Mountains – land acquired • Avoiding further wars with Natives • This created much resentment by colonists toward crown
Huge Debt • British in debt – costly war • Tax Colonists – pay off debt • They benefited from war • 1765 – Stamp Act • Legal documents, papers • Need stamp to be legitimate • No representation in Parliament for Colonists
