JTC1 SWG-A TEITAC Report June 19, 2008 Andi Snow-Weaver andisnow@us.ibm.com
TEITAC Process • Bi-monthly public meetings • Subcommittee structure; weekly calls; public participation • Public e-mail list archives and wiki • Recommendations brought up to Committee • Revision and consensus • Additional material in notes, narrative section of report to Access Board • Final report presented to Access Board April 3, 2008
TEITAC Results • “Product characteristics” rather than “product categories” • “Real-time Voice Conversation Functionality”, not “Telephone systems” • Software, Web, other content, and interface behavior now largely converged into “User Interface and Electronic Content” • Harmonized with ISO 9241-171 and April 2007 draft of WCAG 2.0. Continue to follow WCAG 2.0 and harmonize with final. • Beyond procurement: specific implementation and use provisions
Next Steps • Access Board will: • review the report • draft regulations • publish the draft regulations to get public comments • develop economic impact assessment • issue Final Rule after Regulatory Assessment by OMB • Expect Final Rule sometime in 2010
