  1. One of the oldest castles in the United Kingdom, Windsor Castle has stood in Berkshire County for over 950 years and is deeply embedded in the history of British Royalty. Its connection to the country’s roots has also made it a popular tourist attraction. Before deciding to visit this historic royal complex, there are a few things about Windsor Castle that you need to know about while a resident at cheap hotels near Wembley Arena.

  2. Windsor Castle was commissioned by William the Conqueror back in the 11th century. It was built to protect the Crown from invasions coming from that region and beyond. Due to this, the castle was placed in a strategic location along the River Thames. It would remain part of the royal family for the centuries that followed. It even became a shelter from the Luftwaffe air raids during World War II. History

  3. Windsor Castle is not just a singular castle. It is actually a complex comprised of a small town, a fortress, and a palace that spans 16 acres across Berkshire Country. Of course, royalty that succeeded William would add to the castle’s designs. Edward III, for instance, spent a total of £50,000 renovating the castle during his time. This was the most that any British monarch ever spent on Windsor. A fire broke out in 1992 which destroyed a part of the castle complex. Under the orders of Queen Elizabeth II, the castle was renovated and has since acquired its now famous Victorian/Georgian architectural style. 4. Points of Interest A trip to Windsor Castle would not be complete without visiting some of its more important sites. The State Apartments and the Semi-State Rooms, for instance, is your best chance to get a glimpse of the life (and work) of British monarchs over the centuries. If you are looking for architectural marvels, then St. George’s Chapel and the Round Tower might be to your liking. There are also several proper exhibits on display here. This includes the Royal Wedding Exhibition, which displays every wedding gown and dress worn by the Dukes and Duchesses of Essex on their weddings, and the Doll House of Queen Mary. There are a lot of interesting sites to visit when in Windsor Castle. As such, it is best that you get a hold a tour package which should take you to several of them in every visit.

  5. Getting There Just a short drive from Best Western Palm Hotel in Cricklewood is Windsor Castle which is located 25 miles from Central London and can be reached by several ways. The most direct is by train, as the stations at Paddington and Waterloo connect to Windsor and Eton Central located just beneath the castle. The ride is 30 minutes long and round-trip tickets start at £12.00. Another method is through the Green Line Express coaches which travel in between London Victoria Station and Windsor for several times in an hour. The trip is an hour and 10 minutes long while tickets start at £15.00. Lastly, you can visit by car. However, keep in mind that parking space is hard to find especially during peak seasons. Also, choose the long-stay parking spaces as their rates are cheaper by the hour.
