  1. Year 3 Curriculum Sharing Evening Mr Poole and Mr Foley

  2. Year 3 and Key Stage 2 Independence & Responsibility Your child will be expected to take responsibility for his or her own belongings. Children will be in charge of: changing their reading book, handing in letters, homework, planners and bringing in their swimming/PE kits.

  3. Literacy • Spelling/Guided Reading – every morning. 1 week GR, 1 week Spelling. • Writing covers a wider variety of genres than KS1, we focus on the purpose of the writing and developing their sentences by up-levelling and editing. • Big Write every other week. • Grammar is built into Literacy lessons to help with writing. • Reading skills will be taught in GR (small groups) and as a whole class. • Book bands from last year continue.

  5. Maths • Taught by class teacher • Regular use of ‘Five a Day’ challenge based on arithmetic skills. • Times Table Rockstars set as homework aims to help children secure their tables by the statutory Year 4 tables test. • KS2 Calculation policy is on the school website.

  7. French • Madame Baillie to teach both classes. • Greetings and goodbyes, colours, food, alphabet, body, weather, adjectives.

PSHCE • Mental health and emotional wellbeing: strengths and challenges • Drug, alcohol and tobacco education: Tobacco is a drug • Careers, financial capability and economic wellbeing: saving, spending and budgeting • Keeping safe and managing risk: Bullying - see it, say it, stop it • Identity, society and equality: celebrating difference • Physical health and wellbeing: What helps me choose?

  9. PE/Games • Swimming every other Tuesday (alternating classes) • PE on a Wednesday and alternating Tuesdays. • Gymnastics • Dance • Hockey • Netball • Football • Rugby • Basketball • Tennis • Rounders • Cricket

  10. Swimming • Year 3 swim every Tuesday at school swimming pool – alternating classes. • Your kit should include: costume, towel and swimming hat. Goggles require permission – speak to office. • Swimming teachers to collect children and set children according to ability. Extra sessions are available once a week – speak to the office for more information.

  11. Rewards and Sanctions • Team points • Star of the week • Value bands - truth, polite, respect, try your best and kindness – they restart in KS2. • Golden Ticket • Codes system • Orange – 10 minutes of break time • Blue – whole of break

Homework • Given out on Thursday and collected in the following Thursday • Spelling Shed = 5 sessions using this week’s spelling words (e.g. suffix –ed words). • Times Table Rockstars = 5 sessions in the ‘Garage’ on Auto Training Mode. • 4 times reading a week = 1 TP, 7 times = 3 TP. Signed off in planners • Challenge homework set on topic

  14. Playtime • No playtime in the afternoon. Snacks are therefore very important. • Healthy snacks – fruit and veg for morning break.
