Welcome to the Wellness World! PERSONAL HYGIENE: Taking Care of Your Body Words of Wisdom • Keeping your body clean and taking care of yourself is an important part of staying healthy and self-esteem. Below are some good hygiene habits for children to practice: • Shower: It is important to shower everyday-especially after sweating and physical activity. • Wash your feet: Washing your feet at least once a day prevents fungal infections and warts-don’t forget to get in between your toes and dry your feet well. • Brush your teeth: Brushing your teeth at least twice a day prevents cavities, bad breath, and plaque build up. • Wash your hands: Washing your hands with soap and water throughout the day, especially after using the restroom and before eating prevents illness. • Clip your nails: Regularly trimming/cleaning your fingernails and toenails protects you from bacteria build up and accidental injuries. • Change your clothes: Wearing clean clothes everyday (especially underwear and socks) prevents body odor and bacteria build up. Powerful Pasta: Puree veggies into pasta/pizza sauces-use a blender or food processor to blend spinach, carrots, or broccoli then add the veggie puree to your sauces. Mighty Mac-n-Cheese: Mash steamed cauliflower into the cheese sauce to give this dish a creamy, nutritious boost. 3. Super Smoothies: Smoothies are a great source of nutrients and calcium-experiment with milk, yogurt, and a variety of fruits. 4. Give your Beans a Boost: Puree a variety of veggies with your beans to smear on tortillas and wraps. 5. Casserole Cram: Add grated veggies (carrots, zucchini, mushrooms, broccoli) to your casseroles and meat dishes-sloppy joes, meat sauces, meatloaf, and chili are a great place to sneak in extra nutrients.
