Literacy Overview This term the focus will be: Narrative writing - Friend or Foe Script writing Film Narrative Letters and diary entries Presenting information about the war Publishing work online Nelson Handwriting Spelling Tests - Thursday Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar (SPAG)
Numeracy Overview • This term the focus will be: • Ordering whole numbers and decimals to one place • Addition and subtraction – up to 6 digit numbers • Recognise and extend number sequences • Finding factors and multiples of numbers • 3D shapes and identifying nets • Perimeter • 24hr clock • Equivalent fractions, decimals and percentages • Mental Maths Tests - Thursday • Increased expectations in line with new curriculum
Maths – More like Y6! Pupils should be taught to: read, write, order and compare numbers to at least 1 000 000 and determine the value of each digit count forwards or backwards in steps of powers of 10 for any given number up to 1 000 000 interpret negative numbers in context, count forwards and backwards with positive and negative whole numbers, including through zero add and subtract whole numbers with more than 4 digits, including using formal written methods (columnar addition and subtraction) add and subtract numbers mentally with increasingly large numbers identify multiples and factors, including finding all factor pairs of a number, and common factors of two numbers Multiply and divide numbers up to 4 digits by a one- or two-digit number using a formal written method, including long multiplication for two-digit numbers
Take Home Tasks! Each week children will be set a numeracy, literacy or topic based activity that will reinforce and support their learning from that week. Given out Friday – Due in Wednesday Early bird house point if homework is returned on a Monday. It is also important that children continue their excellent reading habits and aim for at least 3 times a week.
