1st stage: currents of moist air move upward. Water condenses and forms clouds which have ice crystals and water droplets. 2nd stage: precipitation falls and pulls some air downward and currents of air move up and down. Last stage: all the air currents move down. The precipitation leaves the clouds and they get smaller. Thunderstorms have lightening. Lightening is a a large electrical spark that moves between areas of opposite charge. Lightening can heat up the air and makes vibrations (thunder). Thunderstorms

Tornadoes • Thunderstorms can cause tornadoes. • A tornado is a rotating column of air and it reaches from the clouds to the ground. • 1st-Layers of wind blow at different speeds or in different directions. • A column of air starts spinning between the layers or wind. • Downward winds push down on the other end. • When it touches the ground it is called a tornado.
Hurricanes • A hurricane is a strong cyclone that forms by warm ocean water. • Water vapor from the ocean condenses, it releases heat. • A hurricane can be hundreds of kilometers wide and can cause rain. • The center of the hurricane is called the eye, where it is cam and has few clouds.
Large bodies of water, like oceans can affect the temperature of the air. • The air is tempered • It is warm in the winter and cooled in the summer.
Monsoons • A monsoon is a wind that changes direction in different seasons. • The winter monsoon starts when the land becomes colder than the nearby ocean. Winter monsoons are dry. • Summer monsoons are wet. Moist air from the ocean moves towards the land.
