  2. Chapter 1

  3. The first paragraph is about Erosion. [DEFINITION] • The second is about how Erosion affects our country. And the causes of Erosion. • The third is about Quarry. [DEFINITION] Background Of The Study

  4. MAIN PROBLEM: What are the erosion rates of river banks above and below a quarried area in a river? Statement of The Problem [A]

  5. Sub-Problem: What are the channel characteristics above and below the quarried area? • Depth • Turbidity • Water turbulence • Width/wideness Statement of The Problem [B]

  6. Main Problem: The erosion rate below the quarried area is not significantly different compared to the erosion rate above the quarried area. Hypothesis [A]

  7. Sub-Problem: • There is no significant difference in the depth above and below the quarried area. • There is no significant difference in the turbidity above and below the quarried area. • There is no significant difference in the water turbulence above and below the quarried area. • There is no significant difference in the width/wideness above and below the quarried area. Hypothesis [B]

  8. This study aims to know the significant difference of quarrying on the area above and below it. It also aims to know what effects of quarrying in the channel characteristics. • Depth • Turbidity • Water turbulence • Width/wideness Objectives of The Study

  9. This study can help widen the know knowledge of science students concerning rivers. • This study can also provide information to people who manage quarries so that they can minimize the after effects of quarrying. • This study can also help fishermen. • This can also help provide valuable knowledge to people who live near river banks. This can help them predict the future activities of the river. Significance of the Study

  10. We would only limit our study on river bank. We will only compare a portion of the river that is above and a portion below a quarried area in the channel. The characteristics that we would only be comparing are the depth, turbidity, water turbulence, and the width of the river bank. Scope and Limitations

  11. Definition of Terms • River –is anatural watercourse usually freshwater, flowing towards an ocean, a lake, a sea, or another river. • Erosion –is the process of weathering or removing solid particles from one place to another by water or air. • Quarry –is a type of open-pit mine where rocks or minerals are extracted. • Bank Scour –is the removal of bank materials by flowing water and carried sediments. • Mass Failure –is the process where sections of the bank are sliding or toppling into the stream. • Turbidity - is the cloudiness or haziness of a fluid caused by individual particles. • Turbulence –refers to the speed or flow of water (in this study) Definition of Terms

  13. We only used the internet [Wikipedia] so we don’t really think it’s all facts. We need the library to research it. Review on Related Literature
