Rules • When the verb ends in -er, it is called the infinitive. • To begin conjugate, drop the -er ending. • What is left is called the stem. • Ex: • Infinitive- Parler Stem- Parl
Conjugations • Place the stem with each subject pronoun. • Je parl Nous parl • Tu parl Vous parl • Il/Elle parl Ils/Elles parl
Conjugations • Once you have placed the stem with the subject pronouns, add the following endings. • Je -e Nous –ons • Tu -es Vous – ez • Il/Elle -e Ils/Elles -ent
Parler- To Speak • Je parle Nous parlons • Tu parles Vous parlez • Il/Elle parle Ils/Elles parlent
Meaning • When these verbs are conjugated they have the meaning of: • Am speaking • Are speaking • Is speaking • Speak
Examples • Je parle anglais. • I speak English. I am speaking English. • Tu parles avec ta tante. • You are speaking with your aunt. • Il parle beaucoup. • He speaks a lot. He is speaking a lot.
Examples • Nous chantons ensemble. • We sing together. • We are singing together. • Vous aimez l’opera. • They like the opera.
Examples • Ils nagent dans la piscine. • They swim in the pool. • They are swimming in the pool. • Elles habitent à Boston. • They live in Boston. • They are living in Boston.
