Recruitment + Purposeful Mentoring • Personal touch -- Come on in! • Informed consent • Options and duties • Start small and build up involvement • Continued mentoring – You can do it!
Member Recruitment • Have drawings for free student memberships and full memberships at meetings • Have a board member visit local counseling programs to invite students to membership/events • Have a division rep from different geographical areas • Work with LPC Supervisors to recruit supervisees • Have a board member-at-large and Emerging Leader • Have a board member be a liaison with local school districts and agencies to publicize events and recruit members • Give complimentary memberships to guest speakers • Offer grad student scholarship and/or research grant
Have a brochure complete with membership application and instructions • Give out member brochures at each division sponsored session/event during PGC • Hold event during conference • provide food and they will come! ;) • reception/ luncheon/meeting
Have booth at Professional Growth Conf • Free if continually covered • Offer incentive to graduate students to help cover • Schedule each time slot with 1 board member + 1 grad student • Have give-away / candy at booth to promote engagement • Have internet connection so people can join on the spot • Website
Member Retention • Member letter and certificates for new/renewing members • Use monthly membership report from TCA Office to get names • Provide recognition for number of years of continuous membership • Maybe noted in newsletters for notable anniversaries • Phone calls (or at least an email) to expired members to encourage renewal -- with instructions for renewing
At events held late in the year, allow members to renew for the following year as they sign-in for the event • Review the mission / benefits of membership in meetings/ conference sessions • Quarterly membership newsletter • provide informative articles, advocacy updates • include list of new/renewing members to thank them for their membership • include "member spotlight" highlighting a member
Provide informative sessions during PGC • put in descriptor paragraph “Sponsored by (div/ch)” • Send email the month before conf inviting members to activities being provided • Have ad in TCA PGC pre-program and program books listing division events/sessions • Have separate division conf (face-to-face or webinar) to provide CEU opportunities to members
