The Skeletal System. The skeletal system supports the body and gives it shape. It also works with muscles to move the body . Another one of its functions is to protect the soft organs and body parts. The skull protects the brain. Ribs protect the lungs and heart.

The Skeleton • The skeleton is made up of 206 bones. • It contains cartilage in all the places where two bones meet. • Point to something on your face that is made up of cartilage.
The skeleton • The place where two or more bones join together is called a joint. • Talk with your partner and find at least 5 joints on your body. • Ligaments connect the bones in the joints of the body and help to keep them in place. In the very center of the bone is bone marrow. It is a soft tissue that makes new cells.
