Student Expecations • Your child should: • Come to school prepared • Complete homework on time • Sign Oh MAN slips • Get assignment notebook signature • Review Friday Folder (be sure it is emptied each week & include signature) • Review Citizenship Report/Behavior Report • Fill out Reading Log • Follow PBIS expectations throughout the school • Demonstrate appropriate behaviors in class to promote learning for themselves AND others

Parent, Teacher, and Student Conferences • Scheduling Conferences: • A note will be sent home for time preferences • - When we schedule your conference time, siblings who attend Briar Glen School are considered for your convenience • Night of Conference: • - Your child is encouraged to participate in his/her conference • - We can discuss your child’s MAP goals for reading and math • Students take ownership of their academic strengths and have insight on what needs to be improved

Information • Snacks: • Students are allowed a healthy snack • - All snacks need to BE NUT FREE • Field Trip: • - Will be in May • - Culminating Social Studies field trip • - Local businesses in downtown Glen Ellyn • - Places will be determined • - Parents will be invited to be chaperones • - Flyer will be coming home later in the year • Spring Fling: • - 3rd Grade Recorder Concert • It will take place during the school day in May • A flyer will be sent home shortly

Reading • Reading Street • Different from past years • Driven by common core standards • End of each unit, there will be a culminating project for assessment • Interview project • Applied to real-life situations • Spelling words from series – do not align with the story for the week(s) • Science/Social Studies aligned with reading • Differentiated reading groups

  15. Assessments MAP Testing Test will be taken 3 times a year for Math and Reading Test is individualized Measures student growth Results are used to set goals with each student for reading and math Goals will be sent home Sharing data with students
