Status Update (Current Project) • Update from HK • Connection is done through normal Internet, ISDN, ADSL • Slow • Request for faster connection • Channel discussion to Satellite WG where there will be a discussion on the connection.
Status Update (Current Projects) • MY • Testing of Satellite Collaborative control of telerobot, (Satellite Internet WG, Multimedia WG, Education WG) • Initial test via Terrestrial Link (15/1/2000) • Via MeaSat Satellite (29/1/2000) • More test to be conducted
Status Update (Current Projects) • KR • Hanyang Univ., KR & Temasek Polytechnic, SG • Purpose: • To test IP multicasting & measure network performance to transfer real-time multimedia data between KR and SG • Acquire & share network technology on multicasting multi-media teleconferencing applications • Distribute lectures/seminars/training programs (explore IP/TV tools) Teleconferencing Over IP MulticastNetwork
Status Update (Current Projects) • Project Delayed by 3 months • TP side had a lot of problems with VIC/VAT tools (especially on NT, Silicon Graphics) • Decided to go on Sun Platform (Advised that it is more stable), Machine to arrive in March 2000 • Problem with Multi-cast connection

New Projects • VEMAT (Virtual Environments for Manufacturing & Training) • A joint proposal for APEC TEL funding was put up by Manufacturing WG (Tan Kim Cheng) & Education WG(Tan Hock Soon) and submitted on 15th September 99 • Partners in this project will include: • NUS (National University of Singapore) • PolyU (Hong Kong Polytechnic University)

Learning Metropolis • APEC Education Ministers’ Meeting in SG • 5th - 7th April 2000 • Exhibition will be from 7th-11th April 2000 • Education WG has been invited to take part in the exhibition
Other Updates • Lecture on FDM conducted in NUS (19 Jan 2000) live to TP where the Machine is housed • Demonstration of Machine operation to NUS lecture live • Prof. Park reported conducting a series of live lectures using video conferencing on Communications & AI between Hanyang & Waseda Univ. (Oct/Nov 1999) • YoungSeok Lee (SNU) suggests that there should be an initiative to conduct course on a regular basis between members • Chair agrees and has already initiated a program called IWE (International Writing Exchange). Proceeds to distribute information and call for participation. • Jaehwa Lee suggests also look at collaborations with APRU projects
