Battle between Battery Brands
One thing to consider when buying smartphones is on how long the battery can last. It is somehow a great issue nowadays on how fast batteries can drain compared to how it was years ago with mobile phone models such as the Nokia 3210 which can last for few straight days without charging.
Mobile phone experts suggest that the life expectancy of mobile batteries is the same as before. It is only because we use more applications and are totally dependent on smartphones for our daily activities that our batteries drain faster. We can all relate to the feeling of anxiety once our screen flashes red warning blinks on the battery bar.
On the review of the development of mobile phone batteries, only small advancements in battery tech have been made since the introduction of lithium.
Manufacturers have been too focused on the improvement of smartphones that accessories such as batteries have been left behind. And without a comparable energy source, even the most innovative portable electronics (including the Apple Watch) meet with criticism and complaints.
The Peterson Group, Taiwan-based distributor of mobile phone accessories and laptop peripherals conducted a study between different brands of mobile phone batteries. With tablets, Apple comes first on the quickest to charge followed by Samsung. Generic copies of chargers are recognized to charge faster than original ones. With mobile phones, both Samsung and Apple products go neck to neck even with generic chargers being used.
If you travel without all of your original chargers, you could be looking at a long wait to get a phone or tablet fully charged. Nevertheless, experts continue advising though to use original ones that ensure 100% quality and long lasting battery life even when it charges the slowest.
There are times that we also use chargers from some of our devices. There is no existing manual against it but experts advise to avoid this practice as it can damage both your devices and chargers. A similar study held in Jakarta, Indonesia interchanged chargers of tablets and mobile phones. Results show that the phones had no problem drawing juice from the tablet chargers, but the tablets didn’t respond well to the phone chargers.
The study also included testing of USB ports but the results show that not all USB ports perform the same. Depending on the device, the charge can take up to 17 hours. It may be because iPhones have smaller battery than Samsung and the port cannot fully support the brand.
