  2. Opening Activity Please put your name, date and period on both sides of worksheet. Read “5 Things You Need to Know about Drones” (Part 1) Answer the six questions on page 2. (To the right, you see a poster that depicts two pilots in Colorado controlling a Reaper drone in Afghanistan).

  3. Group Activity Goal: To write a story that celebrates the success of the United States’ drone program in Afghanistan. You will compose thisstoryone “chapter” at a time. Please get into groups of your choice.

  4. Chapter 1: Describe what happened on 9-11. Tell it like a story.

  5. Pass the paper to the left. Chapter 2: Describe the difficulties and dangers U.S. military ground troops face when they are following terrorists through the mountains. Tell it like a story.

  6. Pass the paper to the left. Chapter 3: Describe what the drone pilots in this picture are doing. Be specific. Describe how the pilots are finding the terrorists. Tell it like a story.

  7. Pass the paper to the left. Chapter 4: Tell the story of the missile in the picture. Remember, we are celebrating the Reaper drone, so this should be a “happy ending.”

  8. Pass the paper to the left. Create a title for your story.

  9. Pass the paper to the left. The person who is now holding the paper will read your group’s story to the class . . . unless someone else from the group wants to volunteer to do it. Return to your assigned seats.
