  2. Economy of the North • Very Prosperous • Diversified • Variety of Crops • Livestock • Trading • Manufacturing • Cities/Urban Life • New York, Philadelphia, Boston • Properly planned • Entertainment facilities

Social Characteristics • Social Diversity More than South • Non English/Welsh Immigrants: Dutch, Germans, Scots and Scot-Irish • Africans • Slavery • Slavery Existed, but not like the south • Slaves had legal rights, unlike south • Cruel treatment existed. No law to protect them. • Rebellion occurred sometimes
