  3. What’s Going on from 1900-1920 • 1903: The Wright brothers fly at Kitty Hawk(left top) • 1908: First year of the Model T(left bottom) • 1914 – 1918: World War I(right)

  4. What’s Going on from 1920-1940(ish) • 1920’s: The Roaring 20’s. Making electricity, telephones, engines, and flight much better • 1927: Release of The Jazz Singer– the first talking movie (bottom) • 1929: Stock Market crash – Black Monday. Start of the Great Depression • 1930’s: The Great Depression • 1939: Hitler invades Poland thus starting World War II

  5. The 1940’s • 1941: Pearl Harbor is attacked • 1945: The Enola Gay drops two atomic bombs on Japan(left) • 1945: End of World War II and start of the Cold War • 1947: Chuck Yeager breaks the sound barrier in the X-1(right)

  8. The 1960’s • 1961, April: Russian Yuri Gagarin is the first human in space(left) • 1961, May: Allan Shepard is the first American in space(right) • 1962: The Cuban Missile Crisis • 1965: The U.S. sends troops to Vietnam

  13. 2000’s and Beyond… • 2003: Space Shuttle Columbia disaster • 2004: SpaceShipOne is the first reusable private vehicle to enter space and return(left) • 2011: Space Shuttle program is retired • 2011: Watson beats Ken Jennings in Jeopardy!(right)
