product focus 6/9/14 – 6/20/14
Introduction Our Product Focus for the next two weeks is MicrosoftWindows 8.1. Windows 8 was released in the Fall of 2012 and has since seen many updates and two major revisions. Microsoft’s latest OS release was controversial for many reasons, but mostly due to the fact that it was engineered to be one OS to fulfill the needs of any hardware device. It was built for touch capability and full screen app utilization, but it also included a desktop mode for backwards compatibility. However, the drastic user interface changes made many businesses take pause before upgrading and Microsoft has not seen corporations adopt Windows 8 at the same pace as Windows 7. To improve corporate adoption, Microsoft introduced the Windows 8.1 update last Fall to increase mouse and keyboard navigation options amongst other additions. Since that point many Windows Updates have been distributed to further enhance capabilities for mouse / keyboard users. Microsoft Learning has also updated their Windows 8 technical classes with Windows 8.1 information.
