  2. Founding History • Mission San Rafael was founded on July 4, 1823 by Father Vincente de Sarria. • Mission San Rafael was the 20 mission founded out of 21 missions. • San Rafael was named after Saint Raphael. • Watch my power point to find out about San Rafael Arcngel.

  3. Location • San Rafael is located near San Francisco bay. • The mission has a Hospital, church, and a cemetery. • All missions are built near water that’s why San Rafael is near The San Francisco Bay.

  4. Design and Layout The mission has a Hospital, Church, A Cemetery, and Friars’ Quarters. The church seen today was built in 1840.

  5. Mission Life Native Americans Mission Life During the day men would work in the fields. During the day the women would weave baskets, table cloths, and other things. The kids were not taken care of right. • The Native Americans were on a strict schedule every day. • Every day was like prison to them only with good food. • Bells represented when to do the right job.
