Mission Life Native Americans Life Missionary Life Was a little bit more easy because the natives did all the work. They rang the bells. Teached the natives there ways of life and how to do things. Wiped the Natives Americans when they were not working. Led the masses and baptes the Native Americans. • Woke up at dawn and went to church . • Then they had Breakfast , it was hot chocolate to drink and atole to eat then they went to work. • Neophites [bapties native americans] made most of the food that was eaten every day. • The men spent most of the day on the fieldherdingsheep , cattle , and horses . When harvest season was over, they made adobe bricks from soil mixed with water, straw , or clay . • The women weaved inside the quarters . They made clothing , blankets , sheets , tablecloths , towels , and napkins . • After lunch they had a nap . Then they went to mass followed by game time , then they went to bed
Mission Life Today Today a chapel at the site of the mission duplicates most of the orignal mission church because the church was torn down for firewood in 1870 The parish church has a nice collection of window pictures. The picture are of siants and verses of the bible. The mission is a replica built in 1949. Today the mission sits on the next to the St. Rapheal Parish because the mission is used as a gift shop and mueseum now. The chapel is used today for special events.
Take a Stand I think the Mission system was unfair. Reason #1 Native Americans were fored to give up there caulter. Evidence: if were found doing there religon they would be wiped. Were fored to learn about a new religon and langage. Reason #2 Native Americans did more of the work than the missionary did. Evidence : Missionary told the Natives how to build the mission and the natives built it. The missionary teach the Natives how to do there work then the Natives did the work while the pardres wiped the natives who did not do there work. Reason #3 Many Native Americans died. Evidence : Missionary gave sickness to the Natives and there bodys could not handle it. If were found not doing there job or doing there religon they would be wiped or they could die.
