When Leif was still a boy his family sent him to Norway to learn how to become a Viking man.
Norway is a country on the continent of Europe Norway Iceland

What happens when you talk back to your teacher as a Viking.
At a Viking assembly of leaders called a “THING”, Leif’s father Eric the Red killed a man.
The council of leaders of the Thing, banished Eric from Iceland for three years. Eric and his family had to find a place to live. Since Eric was wanted for murder in Norway, they couldn’t go there. Norway
Eric served his three years of banishment on Greenland and then returned to Iceland.
When Eric and his family arrived in Iceland, they found that the island had been over-graved by the animals and that a famine had struck the land.
When Eric told the people about his stay in Greenland, many of them followed him back there in hopes of finding better fields for the animals to graze in and more food for the families to eat.
Almost upon their arrival in Greenland, a man who had been lost for a year and given up for dead, Bjarni Herjolfsson returned.
Bjarni told how he was on his way from Iceland to Greenland when all of a sudden…
When he came out of the fog and could see the stars again, he noticed that he was sailing along a strange coast that he had never seen before.
Leif was excited about this new land and wanted to go explore it. After several years he got some men together in 1000 and went on a voyage.
The first place they cam ashore had many flat rocks. They called that place “Flat Stone Land.”
The second place they landed was an area they called “Markland.” Today it is known as “Newfoundland.”
Eventually, they travelled further south and found a land where the frost did not fall all winter and there where plenty of grapes. They called this land “Vinland the Good.”
Leif and his men spent a winter in Vinland and then returned home.
Leif never returned to North America. However his brother Thorvald and others did.
Thorvald and his men tried to establish settlements in the New World but the Native Americans did not like their Viking neighbors and drove them away.
