Some points of challenge? • From ‘above’ • EU groups have clear ‘policy job’ in CAP reform rounds and implementation….in Aus.? • Agric. a ‘by-product’ policy…to trade, environ., animal welfare, food safety, etc.: ‘policy takers’? • (perceived?) ↑ in effectiveness of ‘campaign’ politics • From ‘below’ • Social change in broad public • Structural change in farming (farm interests more diverse?)
Questions around adaptation? EVERY group has to ask and answer… • Funding? • Closed Membership? Open Supportership? Large Donors/Patrons? Mixture? • Influence Strategy? • ‘Inside’ track? ‘Outside’ public engagement? To influence elite opinion? • Capacities? • To engage public? To implement policy? To service members?
