  2. What is our purpose? • To give an overview of the new report card for grades 1 and 2 • To explain “progress indicators” used on the new report card • To share the “characteristics that affect learning” used on the new report card • To share rubrics begin used to assess student work

  3. Components of SARC • The standards (VA SOL) describe what a student should know and be able to do. • The standards-aligned curriculum directs the teachers ensuring that the instruction addresses the standards • Assessments measure the extent to which a student has mastered essential skills • The report card allows the teacher to communicate a student’s progress toward meeting standards at regular intervals throughout the school year.

Progress Indicators E = Exceeds Standard: In addition to meeting the standard, the student makes application beyond grade level expectations, M = Meets Standard: Student consistently meets and demonstrates mastery of current grade level expectations P = Progressing Towards Standard With assistance, student demonstrates partial mastery of current grade level expectations B = Below Standard: With assistance, student struggles to demonstrate partial mastery of current grade level expectations ● = Denotes knowledge or skill not assessed at this time

  5. READING LEVEL STANDARDS Reading levels will be noted as: A= Above level O= On level B= Below level DRA levels as noted below will be one measure that will be used to determine the level. Small group work and individual assessments will also be utilized each grading period.

Rubric samples Math Rubric – Facts E = Exceeds Standard M = Meets Standard P = Progressing Toward Standard B = Performing Below Standard E = 96% - 100%(1) accuracy on 30 addition facts to 10 M= 86% - 95% (2-4) accuracy on 30 addition facts to 10 P = 70% - 85% (5-9) accuracy on 30 addition facts to 10 B = 70% > (10+) accuracy on 30 addition facts to 10

Social Studies Rubric-Famous Americans E = Exceeds Standard M = Meets Standard P = Progressing Toward Standard B = Performing Below Standard E = Writes more than 3 contributions about the person and show higher understanding of the person’s contributions. M= Writes 3 contributions about the person. P = Writes 2 contributions about the person. B = Writes 1 contribution about the person.
