  2. biografia • Joseph mallord William turner nació en Covent Garden, Londres el 23 de abril de 1775 (dato discutido) y murió el 19 de diciembre de1851. Fue considerado una figura controvertida en su tiempo, pero hoy en día es visto como el artista que elevó el arte de paisajes a la altura de la pintura de historia.

  3. Su padre, William Turner, fue un fabricante de pelucas que luego se convirtió en barbero. Su madre, Mary Marshall, un ama de casa, fue perdiendo su estabilidad mental paulatinamente siendo joven, quizá debido a la muerte de la hermana pequeña de Turner, en 1786. Ella murió en 1804, recluida en un psiquiátrico.

  4. Posiblemente esta situación condujo a que el joven Turner fuera enviado en 1785 con su tío materno a Brentford, un pequeño pueblo al oeste de Londres, cerca del río Támesis. Allí Turner mostró por vez primera su interés por la pintura
