  4. SHRM Volunteer Communications Not receiving SHRM Volunteer Communications?You may have inadvertently elected NOT to receive emails from SHRM. SHRM communicates with our volunteers primarily through email – often the message is time sensitive and we want to make sure our volunteers have the most updated information as soon as it becomes available.  Some of our volunteer leaders may have inadvertently elected NOT to receive any emails from SHRM.  This means that you cannot receive emails related to your role as a SHRM volunteer.  If in fact you do wish to receive emails from SHRM, please go to http://l.shrm.org/opt/Member_Com/.  This will take you directly to the “SHRM’s Subscription Management page.  Select “Volunteers” to receive emails relevant to your volunteer position.  You also have an opportunity to receive emails from other departments such as the Executive Office, Students/Young Professionals, Membership and Government Affairs.

SHRM Volunteer Leaders' Summit ::Formerly the SHRM Leadership Conference Save the Date! 2015 SHRM Volunteer Leaders’ Summit November 19-21, 2015 Washington Marriott Marquis901 Massachusetts AvenueWashington, DC 20001 A few things about the 2014 Summit you attended:  The Program ID for the Summit is 225834. You will be awarded 2.25 general recertification hours from HRCI for attending this event.  The Program ID for the Capitol Hill Briefing and Visits is 225836. You will be awarded 4.75 general recertification hours from HRCI for attending this event. For those who attended both, you will need to submit both program ID codes. SHRM Affiliation Requirements SHRM Chapter Membership Requirements as of January 1, 2012 • Non-100%-Chapters • Minimum of 25 SHRM members • AND • 51% SHRM membership • 100%-Chapters • Minimum of 25 SHRM membersAND • 100% SHRM membership Applies to all existing and new chapters - no grandfathering. Chapters not currently meeting new affiliation requirements will have a five-year period to do so (by December 31, 2016). 1 year, 9 months to meet the requirements

SHRM At-Large Member List Chapter at-large member list requests There are two types of listings for your at-large members; the process to request an at-large member list depends on the purpose of your request: •  If a mailing, we will need you to complete the request form and provide a copy of what you plan on sending to the at-large members.  The form can be found at http://www.shrm.org/Communities/VolunteerResources/ResourcesforChapters/Documents/Chapter_Member_Label_Request_20090730.doc •  If you are looking for a copy of the list for internal chapter purposes, we will need you to complete and return a separate request form, which can be found at http://www.shrm.org/Communities/VolunteerResources/ResourcesforChapters/Documents/Chapter_At-Large_List_Request_20120615.doc For your future reference, these forms are available on the VLRC in the Resources for Chapters >> Forms.  The direct link to this area of the VLRC is http://www.shrm.org/Communities/VolunteerResources/ResourcesforChapters/Pages/CHAPRforms.aspx

SHRM Membership Dues Dues Changes as of January 1, 2015 • As of  January 1, 2015 • Student membership rate increased from $35 to $40 after many years of no increases.  • Professional membership moved from $185 to $190. • Use promotional code 0118 to offer a $15 discount to first-time, new SHRM members.

When Work Works :: Workplace Flexibility http://www.whenworkworks.org/ The Guide to Bold New Ideas (GBNI) is a great resource that includes a list of all the 2013/2014 Workflex winners and is searchable by a variety of criterion (location, industry, type of workflex, etc.).  The Guide is a great tool for those organizations that are looking for examples of successful workflex practices. The Guide previously cost around $20 for SHRM members – but, the Guide is now a “FREE” resource!

  22. SHRM Certification Coming to a Mailbox Near You Ribbons and SHRM membership promotional cards. The ribbons should be used to recognize chapter members who have obtained their SHRM-SCPTM or SHRM-CPTM certification. The promotional cards should be given to potential first-time SHRM members to encourage them to join at a discounted rate. www.shrmcertification.org

For Existing Certificants – the Pathway Until the end of 2015 Credential holders will complete a simple three-step process: • Agree to abide by the SHRM Code of Ethics; • Affirm that you hold a valid HR credential; and • Complete the online tutorial on HR competencies. You are not required to give up your existing credentials. *Note: PHR, SPHR, GPHR, HRBP and HRMP are registered trademarks of the HR Certification Institute and are not SHRM certifications.

Streamlined Recertification Process SHRM’s streamlined approach to recertification includes: • 60 SHRM Professional Development Credits (PDCs) based on the SHRM BoCK; • Credits awarded for Advance Your Education, Advance Your Organization, and Advance Your Profession; • Greater emphasis placed on job-related experiences and projects; • No distinction between Strategic & General Business Credits; and • State Councils, Chapters, and Educational Partners in good standing are eligible to become Preferred Providers at no cost. Once you earn the new SHRM credentials, you will begin a three-year recertification cycle. www.shrmcertification.org

Commitment to Chapters We recognize that with this change, SHRM Chapters may face some short-term challenges, which SHRM wants to help address. • SHRM Chapters in good standing will be designated as Preferred Providers for SHRM recertification programs at no cost. As Preferred Providers, chapters will have the opportunity to offer programs qualifying for recertification credit without pre-approval.   29. Post the Preferred Provider Seal Let your members and the community know that your programs support recertification of the SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP credentials. Use the Preferred Provider seal on: • Your website • Marketing collateral • Course Certificates

  30. On Your Marketing Materials or Conference Brochure Add this statement prominently: Don’t forget! [Chapter/State Council Name] is recognized by SHRM to offer Professional Development Credits (PDCs) for SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP.

State Council/Chapter Incentive Program State Councils will earn $10 for every SHRM certified National member in the state ( tally on December 31, 2015 and again in December 2016) Chapters in good standing will earn $20 for every SHRM certified National member who designates the chapter as primary (tally on December 31, 2015 and again in December 2016) **For every SHRM member certified in 2015,the chapter could earn $40 over two years. And the state council will earn $20 over the two years.

  32. Chapter Operations Survey The results are in! The findings of the 2014 Chapter Operations Survey fielded earlier this year are now available.  The published report is available for download in PDF on the VLRC.  The report includes comparisons to findings in our 2012 report as well.  Check it out!

Bylaws Review & Approval Process Chapter Bylaws – Review and Revisions http://www.shrm.org/Communities/VolunteerResources/ResourcesforChapters/Pages/CHAPRadmin.aspx • Be sure to initiate your review with the current version of bylaws on file at SHRM HQ! • If you do not have a copy of the current version, contact your Member Engagement Associate(MEA), formerly known as the Regional Administrator. • Send 3 things to your Field Services Director (FSD) by email • Summarized listing of the major changes, in bullet format • “Marked up” copy showing the changes • “Clean, Final” version to be signed by SHRM
