Change to CAPR 62-1 Members who missed the face-to-face safety meeting will review the information presented at the meeting before they participate in any CAP activity (including unit meetings). To make up missed meetings, any system that gets the message to the member is acceptable – e-mail with read receipt, etc. Due to the educational benefits gained from the interaction during face-to-face meetings, each member must attend at least one face-to-face meeting per calendar quarter.

Go to eservices page, on the left side you will see CAP Safety Suggestions. • Recent Safety Suggestion submissions: • Industrial approach to safety is Behavior Based Safety. It works. "Think Safe – Live Safe - Be Safe“ • When cleaning the underside of the mower, remove the wire to the spark plug • Treat every flight/drive with the mentality of "how would I explain a negative outcome to the NTSB/ my Squadron CC, my wife, etc".
August Sentinel Recent submissions (continued) • After periodic safety briefings have the cadets do a safety hazard scavenger hunt at their squadron • Tick-removal. Apply a glob of liquid soap to a cotton ball. Cover the tick with the soap-soaked cotton ball, let it stay on the for a few seconds. Lift the cotton ball away and the tick will come with it. • Proper hydration. August Sentinel • Did you check the tire pressure • Of inspected vehicles at Wing SAREVALs, SAVs and Compliance Inspections (CI), 70% have at least one under or over inflated tire.
Under inflated tire risks • Fewer miles per gallon of fuel • Wear excessively on its edge • Build up of excessive heat • damages the tire’s internal structure • easier for sharp objects to penetrate • increases the risk of a blowout • Loose steering precision, corning stability, and load-carrying capacity
Over inflated tire risks Excessive center tread wear and a shorter lifespan Less grip especially on wet pavement More prone to puncture A bouncy or bumpy ride
Did you check the tire pressure? Check and properly inflate tire pressure monthly Check 15-passenger vans weekly. Do not forget to check and properly inflate the spare tire. Pressure should be checked when the tire is “cold” All CAP vehicles should have the tire pressure stenciled at each fender and on the back bumper for the spare tire pressure in 1” lettering
August Safety Down Day • Col Theis had directed a Safety Down Day during the month of August. • A Safety Day Power Point briefing has been sent to commanders and safety officers. • Also available on the Wing Safety web page. • Information must be reviewed by all Wing personnel • Must be viewed before participating in any CAP activity after your group specified safety day
