What is Assistive Technology? • An Assistive Technology Device is any item, piece of equipment, software or product system that is designed to increase, maintain or improve the functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities. • An Assistive Technology Service directly assists an individual with a disability in the selection, acquisition or use of an Assistive Technology Device.

  45. Background and Overview • On the 20th Anniversary of the signing of the ADA, in July 2010, Governor Schwarzenegger issued Executive Order. • The Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) and the Department of General Services (DGS) teamed together.

  46. Background and Overview • The American Disabilities Act Law requires that the accommodations be provided in a timely and effective manner, so it is essential that equipment or services appropriate to the needs of the employee are obtained as quickly as possible.
