“What’s for dinner Mum?” asked Tom and Sarah. “I’m not sure. Maybe Dad can cook dinner tonight,” Mum suggested. Both kids laughed. “Dad can’t cook!” said Sarah. “Of course he can. You two can help him make a roast chicken dinner,” said Mum. Both kids looked at their mum then at each other. “Ok lets go and find him,” they said.
“Dad! Mum said that we are going to cook a roast chicken dinner tonight,” said Sarah. “Ok, but we’re going to have to find a recipe otherwise it could be a disaster,” said Dad. They walked over to the cookbooks and looked through them. “Here’s one that sounds good,” said Dad getting the first recipe he could find. “That will do,” said Tom.
“Ok, so the first step is to prepare the vegies,” said Dad. “What’s my job?” asked Sarah. “You can rinse the potatoes after tom has peeled them, while I chop the pumpkin.”
“The first thing we need to do is cut the chicken in half, rub garlic on the inside and outside of the chicken,” said dad signalling the kids to do it. Dad didn’t like cooking but the kids did. “Now it says tosprinkleherbs and salt and pepper over the top.”
“Now I will get the potatoes out and you two can mash them, while I quickly brown the chicken,” Dad instructed.
“Now it says to roast the chicken in the oven with the pumpkin for about 30-40 minutes,” said Dad with a sigh of relief. “That’s the last step other than plating up.” • “Oh no,” said the kids. “But we want to keep cooking.” • “You can help mum cook dinner another night,” said Dad.
