  7. OVER TO YOU … • What helps me to feel welcome to and part of the Mass? • What difference can it make to see the congregation, as a whole, as the Body of Christ?

  8. PREPARING TO PRAY AS A COMMUNITY, WE CREATE … • A welcoming environment • A welcoming presence • A sense of expectancy and preparation • A sense of community • A space to worship God together • How might we do this in our own places? • What would help do this?

IN THE INTRODUCTORY RITES … ‘The function of the rites is to enable the community, coming together from a multiplicity of concerns and a variety of ways of life, to become aware of itself again as a gathered community, alert and ready to listen to the word and to celebrate the sacrament.’ (Celebrating the Mystery of Faith, National Centre for Liturgy, 2011)

  10. THE JOURNEY OF THE INTRODUCTORY RITES: • Entrance Procession and Chant ♪ • Greeting • Penitential Act or blessing and sprinkling of water • Kyrie ♪ (omitted if ‘Lord have mercy’ already used or if sprinkling used) • Gloria ♪ • Collect (opening prayer)

ENTRANCE PROCESSION • Server with thurible (if using incense); • Servers with candles, and between them the cross-bearer; other servers; • A reader (or deacon) who may carry the Book of the Gospels; • The priest celebrant. • Occasionally other symbols … • A hymn that unites us in song and purpose

AND WITH YOUR SPIRITET CUM SPIRITU TUO • Galatians 6:18 – May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit; • Philippians 4:23 – The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit; • 2 Timothy 4:22 – The Lord be with your spirit; • Philemon 25 – The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit.

  13. PENITENTIAL ACT • Confiteor • Have mercy on us, O Lord. For we have sinned against you.Show us, O Lord, your mercy.And grant us your salvation. • You were sent to heal the contrite of heart:Lord, have mercy. Or: Kyrie, eleison.

CONFITEOR I confess to almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do, and, striking their breast, they say: through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault; therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin, all the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God.

  15. GLORIA Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will. We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father.   Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer; you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen.
