2. Medical Emergencies Notify University Police at 911 immediately Give as much information as possible regarding: • Nature of the illness or injury • Victim’s location • Status of victim: conscious, breathing, bleeding • Victim’s injury if known • Hazardous materials involved • Do not attempt to move the victim unless he or she is in danger of further injury • Properly trained individuals should begin CPR, if necessary • Properly trained individuals should commence first aid, particularly to stop heavy bleeding, while waiting further assistance • If alcohol poisoning is suspected, keep the person awake, turn person on his or her side and contact University Police at 911

4. Utilities Failures In the event of a major utility failure: Call NC State Facilities Operations Service Center, 919.515.2991and University Police, 911 or 919.515.3000 Examples may include: • Gas Leak • Electrical Outage • Flooding • Plumbing Failure

5. Hazardous Materials HAZARDOUS MATERIAL SPILLSEmergencies, call 911 immediately Hazardous materials include biological, radiological, chemical and gases. Hazardous material spill should be reported to 911, who will contact Environmental Health and Safety.

6. Wolf Alert During emergencies, NC State’s Wolf Alert Emergency Notification Systems will activated,to alert the campus community NC State WolfAlert Text Messaging System: Text messages will be sent to users who are registered via MyPack Portal. Follow instructions in the message and seek more information on the emergency from various campus resources. Do not call 911 for additional information. WolfAlertAudible Warning System: Outdoor sirens will emit a pulsed warning signal when the University community should seek indoor shelter. The siren will sound for approximately 3 minutes if the emergency is still impacting the University. A chime tone followed by a message stating “all clear” will be repeated three times when the danger has passed.

7. Wolf Alert Evacuation • In some cases, evacuation of certain buildings or of the entire campus may be needed. Alternatively, staying put in an interior space may be the best possible action. Continue to check for updates on the situation when you can leave the shelter. Shelter-in-place • Shelter-in-place means selecting a small, interior room if possible, with no or few windows, and taking refuge there. It does not mean sealing off your entire building. If you are told to shelter-in-place, follow the instructions provided. Why You Might Need to Shelter-in-Place • Chemical, biological, or radiological contaminants may be released accidentally or intentionally into the environment. Should this occur, information will be provided by University authorities through WolfAlerts. The important thing is to follow instructions of University authorities and know what to do if you are advised to shelter-in-place.

8. Fire Emergencies In the event of a fire or hazardous materials emergency within a campus building, it is necessary and safest for occupants to evacuate. University policy is total evacuation If you are trained and feel confident using a fire extinguisher— P PULL safety pin from handle A AIM at the base of the fire S SQUEEZE the trigger handle S SWEEP from side to side

9. Building Evacuations When evacuation alarms sound or you are otherwise directed to leave the facility and you are physically able to leave the building: • Go to the nearest exit where there are no hazards • Proceed directly to your pre-designated gathering location • Call University Police at 911 or 919.515.3000 If you are required to leave the building immediately but are unable to do so (physical disability, injury or obstruction): • Go to the nearest exit or area where there are no hazards • Call University Police at 911 or 919.515.3000 • Signal out a window to emergency responders if possible • Remain calm until help arrives
