  2. WALK IN THE SPIRIT, NOT THE FLESH ! Introduction: 1. Paul Proclaimed Christ, Many Galatians Obeyed & Began New Life (Gal. 1:1-4; 3:26-27).

New Life in Christ Gal. 1:1-4 1 Paul, an apostle, (not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead;) 2 And all the brethren which are with me, unto the churches of Galatia: 3 Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ, 4 Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:

False Teachers Tried to Bind the Law of Moses (Gal. 3:1-2). 1 O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you? 2 This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

Gal 5:16-18 Two Ways to Live: Walk in the Flesh (Selfish, Sinful Conduct) VS Walk in the Spirit (Follow God’s Word) 16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. 18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

Fruit of the Spirit—Result of Union with Him, His Character, His Teaching • Love: Unselfish Spirit & Action Seeking the Welfare of Others • Joy: Delight, Rejoicing in Things Right & Good (contrast with momentary pleasure of sin, jealousy, ill will) • Peace: Harmonious Relations

Fruit of the Spirit—Result of Union with Him, His Character, His Teaching • Longsuffering: Forbearance, Patience, Restraint When Provoked, Enduring Trials • Gentleness: Kindness, Fairness, Moderation, “Sweet Reasonableness” • Goodness: Beneficence, Gracious, Acting with Kindness & Tenderness

Fruit of the Spirit—Result of Union with Him, His Character, His Teaching • Faith: Trustworthy, Fidelity • Meekness: Strength of Character Under God’s Control, Humility, Calmness of Soul Because Occupied with God Not Self • Temperance: Self-control, Self-discipline in Submitting to God

Gal 5:24-26 Crucify the Flesh, Walk in the Spirit 24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26 Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.

  41. WALK IN THE SPIRIT, NOT THE FLESH ! IV. Gal 5:24-26 Crucify the Flesh, Walk in the Spirit B. The Spirit Gave Life thru the Gospel: Follow It! 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

Conclusion: • Christ Came to Deliver Us from This Present Evil World— He Invites Us to Enter a New Life (Gal. 3:26-27): 26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
